WICHITA, Kan. -- The Wichita State University baseball team earned the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award for the 2020-2021 academic year.
 
The award honors high school and college programs coached by ABCA members that post a grade-point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for the current academic year. It's the fourth straight year the Shockers have earned the honor.
 
WSU tallied a 3.497 cumulative GPA in 2020-2021.
 
The Shockers were one of six American Athletic Conference programs to earn the award, joining ECU, Cincinnati, Tulane, Memphis and USF.

Under second-year head coach Eric Wedge, Wichita State posted a 31-23 overall record and finished third in the American Athletic Conference.
