WICHITA—The Shocker track and field teams closed out the regular season with the Shocker Open on Friday inside of Cessna Stadium.
Director of Track and Field and Cross Country
Steve Rainbolt said it was a lowkey meet, but it was a good transition into championship season.
"We see a lot of good performances at this track meet," Rainbolt said. "That's just always how it goes. We had some really good performances.
"I feel like we have very nice teams that have big goals for the conference championships. We intend to go down there and compete hard and try to win it."
Nate Vann had a personal-best clearance in the pole vault. He cleared 4.67m/15-3.75 for a victory and a personal-best mark.
Aidan Camp had a personal best in the men's hammer throw. He won the event with a toss of 56.10m/184-0.
Antonio Norman ran under 14 seconds again in the 110-meter hurdles. He won the event with a time of 13.91.
On the women's side,
Jacque Darby had two individual victories. She won the women's long jump with a personal-best jump of 6.11m/20-0.50. That mark slots her at No. 8 in school history. She also sits at No. 5 in the AAC this season. Darby also won the women's 200 meters with a time of 24.21.
Emily Gardiner had a personal-best performance in her last effort at Cessna Stadium. She cleared 3.82m/12-6.25 in the women's pole vault to win the event. Gardiner's mark puts her at No. 7 on the Shockers' outdoor performance list.
A trio of Shocker seniors swept the top three spots in the women's 400-meter hurdles.
Claudia Rojo won the event,
Daysha Bullocks was the runner-up and
Anycia Cole finished third.
Destiny Masters won the women's high jump, clearing a personal-best 1.76m/5-9.25 for the win. That mark puts her at No. 2 in the conference this season.
The Shockers also honored the senior class of 2021. Rainbolt said he had a bittersweet feeling.
"It's always melancholy to see the senior class move on," Rainbolt said. "I'm very glad we're moving into championship season because the seniors that came back after missing the last outdoor season came back to compete for championships. It means the world to those athletes."
Wichita State turns its attention to the AAC Outdoor Championships on May 14-16 in Tampa, Florida.
