WICHITA—The Shocker track and field team put a bow on competition at the Rock Chalk Classic on Saturday in Lawrence, Kansas.
"It's really nice that we are now getting some warmer conditions and we had some good performances as a result of it but the wind was significant today, which made it difficult for the athletes in some of the events," said Director of Track and Field and Cross Country
Steve Rainbolt. "Like all track meets there was some good and some not so good at this meet, but generally speaking it is very evident that our athletes are rounding into form at the right time."
Davis Dubbert claimed the lone Shocker victory on Saturday. Dubbert took home an individual win in the men's high jump. He cleared 2.08m/6-9.75 for a new personal best in the event.
Dubbert led a trio of Shockers in the high jump.
Brady Palen was right behind Dubbert. Palen cleared 2.05m/6-8.75 for second place.
Weston Lewis took ninth, clearing 1.90m/6-2.75.
Joakim Genereux capped off an impressive weekend for himself in the 100 meters. He took third, running a wind-aided 10.46 for third place. His time would've put him Wichita State's top-10 if not for the blustery conditions.
Antonio Norman ran well in the 110-meter hurdles for the second weekend in a row. He went under 14 seconds again, finishing in 13.92(w) for third place.
Joseph Holthusen also finished in the top 10 with a time of 14.20(w).
Yuben Goncalves took fourth in the men's triple jump. He jumped 14.75m/48-4.75(w) for his third top-five finish in the triple jump in three tries in 2021.
On the women's side,
Faith Turner and
Ezinne Okoro had top-10 finishes in the triple jump. Turner jumped 11.85m/38-10.50(w) for sixth place and Okoro jumped 11.77m/38-7.50(w) for seventh.
Jacque Darby ran a time of 11.71(w) to take 10th in the 100 meters, which an all-conditions season best for her.
Four Shocker women finished in the top 15 of the 100-meter hurdles.
Claudia Rojo,
Sydney Wilson,
Maria Romero and
Anycia Cole all were in the top 15 spots of the 100-meter hurdles' results.
The Shockers' return to Wichita for the Shocker Open on Friday to honor seniors and get in one final tune up before the AAC Outdoor Championships.
