Garrett Kocis and freshman right-handed pitcher
Josh Hansell were both named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll for their performances on the field during the week of March 1-7, it was announced Monday, March 8, by the conference office.

Kocis, who hails from Omaha, Neb., launched five home runs, including a grand slam, two three-runs homers and a pair of solo shots, and drove in a team-high 13 runs in four games and 16 at bats.

He went a career-best 3-for-4 at the plate with two home runs and seven RBI in Wichita State's 15-3 win over Dixie State Saturday, March 6, before belting two round-trippers, which included WSU's first grand slam since 2019, and driving in five in the Shockers' 15-7 triumph over Dixie State Sunday, March 7.

He also went deep in WSU's 3-0 shutout victory Tuesday, March 2, at Oral Roberts, smashing a solo shot in the eighth inning.

On the week, Kocis hit .375 with a .412 on-base and 1.312 slugging percentage.

He currently ranks second in NCAA Division I baseball with seven home runs on the season.
In addition to being named to The American Weekly Honor Roll, Kocis was also named one of Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's National Players of the Week.

A native of Chandler, Ariz., Hansell threw five scoreless innings, earning his first collegiate win in his first career start on the mound in Wichita State's 3-0 shutout victory at Oral Roberts.

He allowed just one hit and struck out seven while walking just two batters on 86 total pitches.

Wichita State (6-3) is scheduled to travel to Tucson, Ariz., for a three-game series at No. 16 Arizona March 11-13. The Shockers are also slated to play a neutral site contest in Tucson against Air Force March 13.
