WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State sophomore right-handed pitcher
Jace Kaminska was named Second Team Preseason All-America by Collegiate Baseball, the publication announced Tuesday.
Â
Kaminska burst onto the scene as a true freshman last season, going 8-1 with a 2.32 ERA to earn First Team All-Conference and AAC Newcomer Pitcher of the Year. The native of Caney, Kan., was tabbed to five different Freshman All-America teams, including First Team honors from Collegiate Baseball, Perfect Game, and D1 Baseball.
Â
After beginning the season working out of the bullpen, Kaminska moved into the rotation for a midweek start against in-state rival Kansas State on March 23. The right-hander allowed just one unearned run over five innings to pick up the win, and found himself working out of the weekend rotation for the remainder of the season.
Â
On April 10 against Houston, he fired the first complete game from a Wichita State freshman since the 2009 season, one of seven wins he earned during conference play. Kaminska dominated the Cougars over the course of three starts, allowing only two runs in 24.1 innings with 17 strikeouts and four walks.
Â
All told, Kaminska allowed just 51 hits over 62.0 total innings of work, racking up 51 strikeouts to just 19 walks. He allowed more than two runs in only one of his 12 appearances during the 2021 season.
Â
The Shockers open the season on February 18 at Louisiana Tech, with the home opener at Eck Stadium scheduled for March 8 vs. Oral Roberts.
