WICHITA, Kan. –Â
LJ McDonough fired six innings of one-run baseball, and the Yellow Team clinched Fall World Series with a 5-1 win over the Black Team on Friday afternoon at Eck Stadium. Yellow has won three of the first four games, with only Saturday's game five still to be played.
McDonough held the Black Team in check through the first five innings, eventually allowing a sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth for the only blemish on his line score. The right-hander struck out four and did not issue a walk, allowing just three hits.
Yellow's offense provided all the support that McDonough would need in the second, grabbing a pair of runs when
Jackson Young rolled an RBI single through the right side and
Andrew Stewart followed with a sacrifice fly. Stewart then blew the game open in the sixth with a bases-clearing triple.
Matt Boyer pitched well in defeat for Black, surrendering three runs on five hits over five innings of work.
Connor Holden recorded the final three outs for Yellow to secure the victory.
The series concludes with game five on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 PM.
