WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita State men's tennis team tallied their second win of the weekend with a 4-1 triumph over the Depaul Blue Demons, at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center, in Des Moines, Iowa. This makes the Shockers an impressive 9-3 on the year.
Â
Danny Bryan's squad will be back in action Sunday as they head to Iowa City, Iowa, to take on the Iowa Hawkeyes at 2 p.m.
Â
Doubles play was intense from start to end with
Alex Richards and
Elio Lago sealing their second win as a duo over Vito Tonejc and Tamas Zador, 6-3, while
Stefan Latinovic and
Benjamin Niv fought valiantly, but fell short on court two. Then it all came down to All-Americans,
Murkel Dellien and
Marius Frosa, who battled relentlessly to seal the doubles point with a win versus Boris Spanjaard and Christopher Casati, 7-6 (4).
Â
The Blue Demons would not go down without a fight as many of the singles matches were close, hard-fought contests. Frosa and Richards were the first to finish as they both quickly found a way to win over Tripp Tuff, 6-1, 6-4, and Luuk Wassenaar, 6-2, 6-4. This was Frosa's first win with his newly found ITA singles rank of No. 107. Depaul answered with a singles win on court four, but before they could begin a comeback,
Orel Ovil clinched the match on court two with a close victory over Spanjaard, 7-6, 7-5.
