GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Zac Owens fired nine birdies over two rounds to lead the Wichita State men's golf team on its first day at the University of Florida's Gators Invitational Presented by Vystar.
 
Owens is plus-3 and tied for 26^th out of 84 entries heading into Sunday's final 18 holes. The sophomore birdied four-straight to start off Saturday's afternoon session on his way to a 2-under-68. It was his sixth round under par this season.
 
Dawson Lewis (+6) paced the Shockers during the morning session with the first of back-to-back 73's. He finished the day tied for 39^th.
 
Joe Bultman (+11) carded three birdies on his way to a second-round 73.
 
Rounding out the Shocker scorecard were Brock Polhill (+14) and Grayson Wallace (+17).
 
Florida's Ricky Castillo (currently No. 46 in GolfStat's national rankings) leads the event at 7-under – one shot ahead of West Virginia's Logan Perkins.
 
The field of 15 teams includes seven squads that are among the top-50 in GolfStat's NCAA Division I national rankings. 
 
Wichita State (+31) is currently in 13^th-place, edging out Toledo (+37) and No. 39 UCF (+42). The Shockers are six strokes behind 12^th-place Missouri (+25) and seven behind 11^th-place Jacksonville (+24).
 
The hosts, No. 31 Florida, are 5-under-par – 10 shots ahead of the two-time defending champions, No. 19 Vanderbilt (+5).
 
Action resumes Sunday morning Mark Bostick Golf Course with the last of three rounds.
