Last Time Out
The men's and women's track and field teams put up strong showings at the Air Force Team Challenge.
Three new top-10 marks in school history led the Shocker women to victory.
Alex Adams,
Jacque Darby and
Paula Garcia all had performances to cement their spot in the top 10 in their respective events.
Adams had a five-centimeter PR in the weight throw to improve her No. 3 mark in school history. She tossed the weight 18.60m/61-0.25 for the win in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Darby jumped 5.91m/19-4.75 in the long jump to secure a victory and the No. 9 mark in school history.
Garcia won her fourth consecutive race and improved her PR in the 200 meters to 24.14. Her time made her the third-best performer in WSU history indoors.
           Â
Adam Gauzy ran a PR in the 400 meters for the men's team. He ran a time of 48.10, which puts him at No. 5 in school history.
           Â
Rebekah Topham continued her strong season at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational in Lincoln, Nebraska.
The senior All-American ran a conference-leading Mile time of 4:45.42. She also improved upon her already third-best time in school history for a PR.

Throws coach John Hetzendorf on the Meet
On the goals and expectations for this weekend for the throwers in Arkansas
"The reason we go to Arkansas and the reason I like it is because it's kind of a dress rehearsal for the conference meet. The competition level is similar at Arkansas as what it will be at the American Athletic Conference Championships. There will be two flights, generally the American has two flights. What it takes to make the final in Arkansas is close to what it takes to make the final at conference."
Â
On the difference in throwing surfaces
"They have a cement ring in Arkansas just like they do in Birmingham at the conference championships. (Throwing on cement) is just about gaining comfort level. This weekend and next week, we'll be on cement even though we practice on wood. I don't want the conference meet to be the first time they throw on the cement ring."
Â
On the seasons Michael Bryan and Alex Adams have had
"They're getting better. That's the biggest thing is just trying to get better. Both have dealt with aches and pains. I'm glad to see them come into form at this time of the year. I'm excited to see how the rest of their seasons shape up."
Â
On some people that could score at conference
"Some people that are coming on that could maybe surprise some people like
Anna Zimmer. She's shown she can throw things far.
Jeff Ast keeps getting better. He's showing signs of a breakthrough coming."

Moore Making Moves
           Â
Adam Moore is in his first track season with the Shockers after entering the program before the 2019-20 school year.
Moore has already shown he can be a threat to Wichita State records and at conference meets.
The Staines-upon-Thames, England, native ran a 4:08.28 last week at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational. His time was just outside the WSU top-10 and puts him at No. 4 in the conference this year.
Moore has also shown his versatility to run at longer distances as well. Moore ran the 3,000 meters at the Jayhawk Classic and finished as the runner-up in the PM section of the race. His time slots him at No. 7 in the conference.
He is set to run the Mile at Iowa State and figures to throw down a fast time with four sub-4 athletes leading the field including NCAA Cross Country Champion Edwin Kurgat.

Rebekah's Rolling
           Â
Rebekah Topham has had an incredible start to her indoor season and is once again looking to be in shape to finish as an All-American.
Topham kicked off her season at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener in Boston where she ran the school's fifth-fastest 5,000 meters time. She crossed the line in Boston in 16:33.29.
Topham then went back-to-back weeks running the 1,000 meters. She nearly broke the school record at the Triangular and she did the same again a week later at the Jayhawk Classic where she set the Anschutz Pavilion facility record.
Topham's best performance of the year came in the 3,000 meters at the UW Invitational. She ran the second-best time in school history with a time of 9:16.80. Her time clocked in as the fastest collegian at the meet and slotted her at 12th in the country this year. She trails only Aliphine Tuliamuk on the school's all-time list.
Topham looks to keep that momentum rolling as the season continues.
