Shockers Host Huskers in Exhibition Game Saturday

9/20/2019 12:00:00 PM

A new era of Wichita State baseball is slated to begin this Saturday, Sept. 21, when the Shockers host the Nebraska Cornhuskers in a 2 p.m. exhibition game at Eck Stadium, Home of Tyler Field. The contest will mark the collegiate coaching debut for Shocker great and new head coach Eric Wedge.

The game is scheduled to be 12 innings in length.

WSU returns nine position players and 10 pitchers from last season's team, including senior outfielder Jacob Katzfey and infielder Alex Jackson, and senior pitchers Preston Snavely and Tommy Barnhouse. The Shockers welcome 18 newcomers this season.

General admission tickets for the game are just $5 and may be purchased online at GoShockers.com/tickets, via phone at 316-978-FANS, or in-person at Eck Stadium. All military and first responders with valid I.D. will receive free admission to the game.

The first 2,000 fans through the gates will receive a commemorative Eric Wedge trading card.

Fans that show their Wedge trading card at the ticket office at any home regular-season baseball game this upcoming spring will receive $1 off any ticket. (*four tickets per transaction)

There will also be a FREE Wichita State student tailgate starting at 12:30 p.m. in the outfield parking lot of Eck Stadium featuring pulled pork, baked beans and hot dogs. The first 75 students to the tailgate will receive a vintage Wichita State Charlie Hustle raglan shirt.

The Shockers and Huskers have a storied history, having met 50 times on the diamond dating all the way back to 1950. Nebraska leads the series, 26-24.

In April 2018, the NCAA Division I Council adopted legislation to allow two fall exhibition games that do not count toward a team's 56-game spring schedule.

WSU will play its second fall exhibition contest Saturday, Oct. 5, at 6 p.m. at Missouri State in Springfield, Mo.
