WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita State track and field program wraps up the regular season at Cessna Stadium hosting the Shocker Open, Friday, May 3.

Wichita State will honor non-competing athletes Friday evening at 5:00 p.m., while competing athletes will be honored before their event. The Shocker Open begins with the women's hammer throw at 1:30 p.m., followed by men's hammer throw. Running events are scheduled to begin at 5:20 p.m., with the women's 100m hurdles.

HOW SWEEP IT IS
Distance runners
Rebekah Topham and
Zack Penrod swept the 110th Drake Relays 1500m races on Friday, April 26. Topham won the women's race in 4:24.76, while Penrod won the men's title with the third fastest 1500m time in Shocker history of 3:42.96.

COUNT THEM UP
The Shockers have recorded 28 Wichita State all-time top-10 marks during the outdoor season, including two school records.
Winny Koskei set a school record on March 22, winning the Herm Wilson Invitational 3000m with a time of 9:40.68, whle the women's 4x400m team of
Daysha Bullocks, Paula Garcia, Taniyah McMillian and
Tianna Holmes set a school record with a time of 3:38.21, on April 26.

SHOCKER SEASON LEADERS
Cory Martens, Winny Koskei and
Claudia Rojo are the only Shockers to lead the team in three different events.
Martens in the shot put (17.63m/57-10.25), discus (55.26m/181-3) and hammer (61.41m/201-6).
Koskei leads in 3000m (9:40.68), 5000m (16:23.65) and 10,000m (33:50.68), while
Rojo has recorded the team's best marks in 100m hurdles (14.22), long jump (5.85m/19-2.5) and heptathlon (4,973).

SQUAD GOALS
In the latest USTFCCCA national event squad rankings, the Shocker track and field program is ranked top-10 in three events. The men's team is No. 5 in javelin and decathlon, while the Shocker women's heptathlon is No. 3 in the nation.

LAST YEAR AT THE SHOCKER OPEN
A total of 23 personal bests were set and one school record.
Kelsey Slawson highlighted the meet bettering her school record with a mark of 15.56m/51-0.75, her mark still stands as the school record.

Wichita State will host the 2019 American Athletic Conference Championships, May 10-12, at Cessna Stadium. 12 women's teams and nine men's team will enter the championship field.
