WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita State track and field program will send 32 student-athletes across town to compete at the Friends Spring Open April 5-6, at Adair Austin Stadium.

A week after splitting to three locations, the majority of the track and field team will take the week off, while 19 women and 13 men will compete Friday and Saturday at Friends University.

The Friends Spring Open begins competition Friday, April 5 with the distance carnival and javelin competition. Saturday, April 6, begins with the field events at 10:00 a.m., while running events are set to start at 12:00 p.m. Live results will be streamed through heartlandtiming.com, as well as posted on goshockers.com and the official @GoShockersTFXC twitter account. Admission to the event is free.

IN THE FIELD
Wichita State will have 30 entries in the field events, beginning with
Jessica Gardiner and
Andrea Navarro in women's javelin Friday night. Other Shockers competing in field events include school record holder in shot put
Kelsey Slawson, she will also compete in the discus along with
Amanda Kakoulias.
Isaiah Evans will be the only Shocker thrower competing on the men's team. Currently he is ranked No. 9 on the Shocker all-time top-10 hammer throw list.
Alex Adams will enter the women's hammer throw. She currently has a Shocker season leading mark of 54.37m/178-4, which is No. 5 on the all-time top-10 list. The women's pole vault group, led by
Alesa Frey, enters the competition in full strength, while the men's side will enter
Bryce Bearden,
Eric Etie,
Slayde Little and
Tate McDonald.
Mason Buckmaster and
Kole Konrade enter the men's high jump, following the women's high jump at 10:00 a.m. Shocker women's triple jump season leader
Amiya Anoma enters the long jump at 12:00 p.m., and triple jump to follow.

ON THE TRACK
Shockers have 18 entries competing in running events, starting with
Jack Lowry competing unattached in Friday night's men's 1500m. Wichita State is first in action on the track at 1:45 p.m. Beginning with Louis Rivers competing in the men's 110m hurdles, followed by six Shockers competing in the women's 100m hurdles.
Jace Coppoc enters the men's 400m at 2:15 p.m., followed by
Leah Reichenberger and
Abby Smarsh in the 400m hurdles at 4:00 p.m.
Kendra Henry,
Jalen Milligan,
Maria Romero,
Ashley Warehime, Smarsh and Anoma enter the women's 200m at 4:30, followed by
Adam Gauzy running the men's 200m.
