PALM HARBOR, Fla. - Senior Yannik Emmert and sophomore Zac Owens hold spots in the top 10 after the first round of the American Athletic Conference Championship on Sunday.

Emmert shot a 1-under par to sit in a tie for third, starting his day with two birdies in his first five holes. After shooting an even par in his next four holes, Emmert bogeyed his first hole on the back nine and shot for par in his final eight holes.

The Bucholz, Germany, native is only four strokes back from the individual lead, with McClure Meissner from SMU finishing the day at 5-under par. Albin Bergstrom from USF is in second individually, coming up with a 69 in the first round.

Owens shot an even par at 71 to close out the first round, coming up with a bogey and a birdie in his first two holes before shooting for par in 12 straight holes. The Woodward, Okla., native collected two bogeys and two birdies to finish out the first 18-holes and come in tied for seventh heading into Monday's second round.

Brock Polhill came up with a 75 to be tied for 29th while Dawson Lewis' 76 put him in a tie for 36th after the first round. Grayson Wallace was one stroke away from matching his career low, with his 76 tying Lewis for 36th.

The Shockers compiled a team score of 292, leading UConn and Cincinnati by four strokes in addition to Houston and ECU. Wichita State trails UCF and Temple by one stroke for a tie for fourth.

SMU leads the team standings with a 285 18-hole score, leading the Shockers by seven strokes and holding a one-stroke lead over Memphis. USF is in third with a 290 54-hole score and leads the Shockers by two strokes.
