ORLANDO – The Wichita State women's tennis team fell to Tulsa, 4-0, Friday in the quarterfinals of the American Athletic Conference Championship at the USTA National Campus.

The Shockers, who end the season with a 14-10 record, fell to Tulsa for the second year in a row at the Championship.

DOUBLES
The Golden Hurricane jumped out to a quick lead in doubles play, when No. 17-ranked Martina Okalova and Vera Ploner defeated
Fatima Bizhukova and
Marta Bellucco, 6-0.
LingWei Kong and
Ting-Ya Hsu answered for the Shockers in the third flight, defeating Marina Davtyan and Megan Hopton, 6-2. After trading games early,
Esther Thebault and Sarvinoz Saidhujavea fell to Martha Mathoula and Shura Poppe to give Tulsa the doubles point.

SINGLES
Tulsa used wins in the top three courts to clinch the match over the Shockers. In flight one, Okalova – who ranks No. 81 – took down Bizhukova in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. Trailing 4-1, senior
Sandra Honigova rallied to tie the first set at four against Mathoula. Mathoula rallied to win the final two games to claim the set, and raced to a 6-3 win in the second to put the Golden Hurricane up 3-0.

On court three, Thebault faced off with Ploner, where she fell 6-3, 6-4 to clinch the 4-0 win for the Golden Hurricane. Saidhujaeva was up a set (6-4) and led 4-3 before going unfinished against Hopton. Alexandra entered the singles lineup at the No. 5 position and led 5-2 in the second after dropping the first set (6-4) to Poppe before going unfinished. Kong dropped her first set to Davtyan (6-1) and after trailing 4-1 in the second rallied to tie the set at five all before play was suspended.
