Shockers Close First Two Rounds in Louisiana

LAFAYETTE, La. - The Wichita State men's golf team finished the first two rounds of the 34th Annual Louisiana Classics on Monday, compiling a team score of 618.

The Shockers are currently in 15th place heading into the final round on Tuesday.

Senior Yannik Emmert is tied for 19th after the first two rounds, coming up with a birdie and three bogeys in the second round. Sophomore Palmer Hays came up with a 154 and collected two birdies in the process.

Freshman Dawson Lewis and Grayson Wallace each came up with a 158 36-hole score, with Wallace competing in his first tournament of his college career. Sophomore Zac Owens improved his second round score to a 79, combining for 162 strokes after the first day.

McNeese jumped out to a first place lead after shooting 291 as a team, leading UTSA by one stroke. Illinois trails by four strokes, but has a commanding lead on Texas State with a seven-stroke lead. Kent State climbed back into the top five after shooting 303 in the first round, coming up with a 291 team score in the second round.

The Shockers finish the last 18 holes on Tuesday with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
