Shockers Release 2020 Schedule

11/14/2019 12:12:00 PM

WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita State men's tennis team will once again have a great opportunity to improve their postseason resume. The Shockers, who finished last season No. 56, will face off against ten opponents that finished their campaign in the national rankings a season ago.

WSU will be led by the All-American senior duo of Marius Frosa and Murkel Dellien, along with sophomore Orel Ovil who finished the fall as No. 122 in singles.

The Shockers spring schedule includes seven home matches, highlighted by a match on March 29, against the 2019 American Athletic Conference Championship winner USF, who finished last season ranked No. 34. WSU will play host to Denver on Jan. 18, and Omaha on Jan. 19 to open up the season. Then, after an 11-match road stretch, the Shockers will welcome UT Arlington on Feb. 21, before heading to Fresno State to compete in the San Joaquin Valley Invitational starting on Feb. 29.

The USF Bulls will be making their first ever trip to Wichita on March 29 when they face off with the Shockers. WSU and USF have met once before with the last meeting being in the 2018 AAC Championship, in Dallas. The Bulls are coming of a 2018-19 season where they won the AAC Championship and defeated the No. 23 Alabama Crimson Tide in the first round of the NCAA tournament before falling to the No. 2 Texas Longhorns in the second round.

WSU will play 18 of its potential 26 regular season duals away from home. At least nine of those matches will be against opponents who finished in the top 75 nationally last season, with two of those nine coming against former Missouri Valley Conference foe Drake, who finished last season at No. 64.
