Shocker Women Win Air Force Invite, Men Place Third

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Wichita State track and field program set eight Shocker all-time top-10 marks, while the women's team won the Air Force Invitational Saturday afternoon at the Cadet Fieldhouse.
 
The Shocker women's team won the Air Force Invitational with 141 points, 46 points ahead of second place Long Beach State University. Kelsey Slawson and Amiya Anoma led the Shocker women to individual event titles on day three of the event. Slawson won the shot put with a mark of 15.44m/50-8. Anoma won the triple jump with a mark of 12.65m/41-6, leaping up four spots to No. 3 on the Shocker all-time list.
 
Rayvon Allen was the lone male Shocker to win an individual event on day three. Allen won the 200m with a time of 21.59, the sixth fastest in Shocker history. For the second consecutive day, Allen bettered his personal best and set a Shocker top-10 mark.
 
Wichita State recorded nine Shocker all-time top-10 marks to cap off the three-day event. The women's team set six, while the men's team recorded two.
 
Tianna Holmes and Jacque Darby each finished second in their respective events, while recording the fourth best marks in school history. Holmes ran 55.63 in the 400m, while Darby ran a 24.60 200m.
 
Other Shocker top-10 marks include Taniyah McMillian (No. 8 | 200m, 24.79), Joseph Holthusen (No. 8 | 60m Hurdles, 8.04), Amanda Kakoulias (No. 9 | shot put, 14.07m/46-2) and Daysha Bullocks (No. 10 | 400m, 56.38).
 
The men's team placed third with 78 points, while Air Force won the event with 113 points.
 
NEXT UP
Wichita State will rest the majority of the team while a few select will compete on Friday, Feb. 1, as the Shockers host the Wichita State Invitational at the Heskett Center. Admission is $5, three years and under are free.
