Civita, Taflinger Recognized by The American

WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State University volleyball student-athletes Giorgia Civita and Megan Taflinger were honored by the American Athletic Conference for their performances during the week of Sept. 17-23. Civita was named the Defensive Player of the Week, while Taflinger was selected to the Honor Roll.

Civita and Taflinger led the Shockers to a 2-0 start in conference play with wins over Tulane and Memphis.

A sophomore libero from Milan, Italy, Civita averaged seven digs per set and tallied 56 digs in WSU's two matches.

In the Shocker's 3-0 win over Memphis Sunday, Sept. 23, she surpassed 1,000 career digs with a match-high 29 digs along with four assists and an ace. Her 29 digs in the match tied for fourth-most in three-set matches in program history and third-most in the rally scoring era (2001-present). In WSU's five-set victory over Tulane Friday, Sept. 21, she compiled 27 digs, in addition to six assists.

Taflinger, a redshirt freshman outside hitter from Leona Valley, Calif., averaged a team-best 4.12 kills to go along with 2.25 digs, 4.25 points and 0.12 aces per set in Wichita State's two matches.

In WSU's five-set triumph over Tulane, she posted her first career double-double with a career-high 17 kills and 13 digs. She also had an ace in the contest. In the win over Memphis, Taflinger had a team-high 16 kills and hit .297.

Wichita State returns to action Saturday, Sept. 29, with an American Athletic Conference match at Tulsa. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
