WICHITA, Kan.
– The Wichita State track and field program completed the Shocker Open Friday night, wrapping up the 2018 regular season.

The Shockers wrapped up the 2018 regular season setting multiple personal records and one school record.

"At this meet we always have good performances," said head track and field director Steve Rainbolt "The athletes are tuning up for a conference championship, everything should be coming together and today that is what I saw. I saw a lot of athletes that looked like they are ready to go and that is super exciting, it was great to see a lot of really good performances."

Multiple athletes recorded personal best, a total of 23 personal best were set and one school record. Kelsey Slawson highlighted the day bettering her school record winning the shot put with a mark of 15.56m/51-0.75. Zack Penrod won the 1500m with the school's fifth fastest time of 3:45.41, which currently puts him No. 2 in The American Athletic Conference.

"I'm really happy for Zack Penrod running a fast 1500m," Rainbolt said "We're really hoping that gets him to the first round of the NCAA Championship. Really excited for Kelsey Slawson, she is having such a wonderful career as a Shocker and to better her own school record today in outdoors, and to go along with her indoor record, is a terrific accomplishment and I'm really happy for her."

In a highly contested competition in the men's high jump, Kole Konrade won the event clearing a personal best 2.05m/6-8.75. Thrower Isaiah Evans won both the hammer throw (58.33m/191-4) and discus (47.40m/155-6), he set a personal best in each event. Jace Coppoc won the 200m with a personal best 21.79, which is the fastest 200m a Shocker has ran during the 2018 campaign.

In the 100m hurdles, all three Shockers competing set personal best.
