MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis scored a run in the bottom of the ninth to beat Wichita State 4-3 in game one of a three-game series.
Luke Ritter went 2-for-5 with a RBI, while
Noah Croft went 2-for-4 with a double, and
Gunnar Troutwine and
Jordan Boyer each had a RBI.
Starter
Codi Heuer went six innings and gave up two runs on five hits with two walks and six strikeouts.
With two outs in the first,
Alec Bohm doubled to right-center and scored on a double to right-center from
Gunnar Troutwine for a 1-0 Shocker lead.
The Shockers added to the lead in the second.
Noah Croft led off with a single and
Mason O'Brien followed with a walk. Croft moved to third on a flyout and scored on a sacrifice fly from
Jordan Boyer to put the Shocks up 2-0.
With one out in the sixth, Alec Trela doubled to left field and moved to third on a wild pitch. He scored on Kyle Ouellette's groundout to third to pull Memphis within 2-1. Nick Vaage's solo home run tied the game at two.
With one out in the seventh,
Travis Young pinch ran for Cadena and reached third on a Memphis error.
Luke Ritter's single to left field drove in Young to give the Shockers a 3-2 lead.
Tyler Webb tripled off the centerfield wall with one out in the eighth and scored on a two-out single from Ouellette to tie the game at three.
Jason Santana led off the ninth with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and pinch runner Evan Bell scored on a two-out single by Cale Hennemann.
The Shockers and Tigers play game two of the series on Fri., May 18 and wrap up the series on Sat., May 19 at 1 p.m.
