MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Wichita State scored three runs in the fifth inning to take an 8-4 win over Memphis and even the series.
Jacob Katzfey went 2-for-5 with three RBI and a home run, while
Alex Jackson went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a double.
Starter
Alex Segal went 0.2 innings and gave up two runs on one hit. Reliever
Tyler Davis threw 3.1 innings and gave up two runs on six hits with three strikeouts. Reliever
Liam Eddy earned the win. He threw five shutout innings and allowed just two hits with one walk and five strikeouts.
Luke Ritter and
Greyson Jenista led off the first with singles. With one out, Ritter scored on
Gunnar Troutwine's single and with two outs,
Alex Jackson doubled to right field to drive in Jenista and Troutwine and put the Shockers up 3-0.
Jacob Katzfey followed with a single to drive in Jackson and push the lead to 4-0.
The Tigers used three hit batsmen and two singles to score two runs in the bottom of the first and cut the lead to 4-2.
Three-straight two-out singles in the fourth for Memphis tied the score at four.
Alec Bohm's 15
th home run of the year gave the Shockers a 5-4 lead in the fifth. With two outs, Jackson singled and Katzfey hit his first career home run to increase the Shocker lead to 7-4.
With one out in the seventh,
Josh DeBacker walked, stole second, moved to third on a balk and scored on a wild pitch to put WSU up 8-4.
The Shockers and Tigers wrap up the series on Sat., May 19 at 1 p.m.
