Shockers Take Series With 13-6 Win

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Wichita State tied a season-high with 20 hits on the way to a 13-6 win over Memphis to claim the three-game series.
 
Travis Young went 3-for-5 with three RBI and two doubles, while Luke Ritter and Greyson Jenista each had three hits and Gunnar Troutwine and Noah Croft each had three RBI.
 
Starter Preston Snavely went five innings and gave up five runs on nine hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
 
Dayton Dugas led off the second with an infield single and moved to second on a groundout. Travis Young's single to left field scored Dugas to give the Shocks an early 1-0 lead. Trey Vickers followed with a double to right-center to score Young all the way from first to push the lead to 2-0.
 
The Tigers used three hits and two walks to score three runs in the third and take a 3-2 lead.
 
Greyson Jenista led off the fifth with a walk and moved to third on a double by Alec Bohm. Gunnar Troutwine's sacrifice fly scored Jenista to tie the score at three. Noah Croft's single scored Bohm to give the Shockers a 4-3 lead. After a groundout moved Croft to second, pinch hitter Jacob Katzfey singled to right field to drive in Croft for a 5-3 lead. Young's two-out double scored Katzfey to increase the Shockers lead to 6-3.
 
The Shockers exploded for seven runs in the sixth inning to go in front 13-3. Highlights of the inning included a two-run double by Troutwine, a two-run home run from Croft, a RBI double by Young, a sac fly by Vickers, and a RBI single by Ritter.
 
Memphis answered with a three-run sixth to make the score 13-6.
 
The Shockers are next in action on May 23 against USF at 11 a.m. ET at the American Athletic Conference Championship in Clearwater, Fla.
