CLEARWATER, Fla. – Wichita State opened up the American Athletic Conference Championship with a 4-2 win over USF.
Alec Bohm went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a double, while
Luke Ritter went 3-for-4 with a RBI.
Starter
Adam Keller went two innings and gave up one run on three hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Reliever
Keylan Killgore earned the win and went a career-long six innings and gave up one unearned run on four hits with one walk and a career-high seven strikeouts.
Chandler Sanburn pitched a scoreless ninth for his ninth save of the season.
With one out in the top of the first,
Greyson Jenista walked and
Alec Bohm singled. They both advanced on stolen bases and with two outs
Noah Croft walked to load the bases. Another walk, courtesy of
Ross Cadena, put the Shockers up 1-0.
The Bulls tied it in the bottom of the second. Kyle Phillips led off with a single and scored on a two-out double from Coco Montes to tie the score at one.
Luke Ritter led off the seventh with a walk and moved to second on a single by Jenista. Bohm delivered a two-run double down the left field line to score both for a 3-1 lead.
The Bulls scored an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh to cut the lead to 3-2.
With one out in the eighth,
Travis Young singled and moved to second on a wild pitch. With two outs, Ritter singled through the left side to score Young for a 4-2 lead.
The Shockers are next in action later today at 3 p.m. CT/4 p.m. ET against the winner of the UConn-Cincinnati game.
