WICHITA, Kan. –Wichita State dropped Tulane, 9-3, Saturday at Eck Stadium to even the series with the Green Wave.
All Shocker starters recorded a hit against the Green Wave, with Josh Debacker going 1-for-3 with two RBI and a walk.
Gunnar Troutwine went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI for the Shockers.
Starter
Liam Eddy went seven innings and gave up one run on five hits with one walk and six strikeouts, to collect his sixth win of the season.
The Shockers took the lead in the third. With one out,
Luke Ritter singled and
Greyson Jenista's hit and run single moved Ritter to third.
Alec Bohm followed with a single to score Ritter and
Gunnar Troutwine doubled to drive in Jenista and Bohm for a 3-0 lead. With two outs,
Mason O'Brien singled to right field to score Troutwine to push the lead to 4-0.
With one out in the fourth,
Josh DeBacker reached on an error and after stealing second, he moved to third on a single from Ritter. Jenista's sacrifice fly scored DeBacker for a 5-0 Shocker lead.
The Green Wave used a two-out rally to get on the board in the fifth. With two outs, Matt Rowland walked and Acy Owen and Sal Gozzo both singled to cut the lead to 5-1.
The Shockers answered in the bottom of the fifth.
Trey Vickers led off with a single and
Travis Young singled to move Vickers to second. Both advanced on a groundout and scored on a single by DeBacker for a 7-1 lead.
WSU added to the lead in the sixth. Jenista led off with a single and Bohm walked. They both advanced on stolen bases and Jenista scored on a two-out infield single from Young and Bohm scored on a Green Wave error for a 9-1 lead.
The Green Wave cut the Shocker lead in the ninth, plating two runs on two wild pitches.
The Shockers and Green Wave wrap up the series on Sunday, April 8 at 12:30 p.m. at Eck Stadium.
