WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State won its first American Athletic Conference series by defeating Tulane 8-2 in game three on Sunday.
Alec Bohm finished the day 2-for 4 with a home run, single, and three runs scored.
Trey Vickers was 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Mason O'Brien finished with a double and two RBI for the Shockers.
Starter
Tommy Barnhouse went five innings and gave up one run on eight hits with one walk and six strikeouts.
With one out in the first,
Greyson Jenista singled up the middle and
Alec Bohm walked. With two outs,
Trey Vickers singled to centerfield to score Jenista for a 1-0 lead.
Mason O'Brien followed with a double to left-center to drive in Bohm and Vickers to give the Shockers a 3-0 lead.
Bohm's home run to lead off the third pushed the Shocker lead to 4-0.
The Green Wave cut into the lead in the fourth. Grant Witherspoon led off with a single and stole second. David Bedgood followed with a double to right-center to score Witherspoon and cut the Shocker lead to 4-1.
The Shockers added a run in the fifth. With two outs, Bohm singled up the middle and moved to third on a single by
Gunnar Troutwine. Bohm scored on a Green Wave fielding error to push the lead to 5-1.
Tyler Heinrichs' solo home run to lead off the seventh pulled the Green Wave within 5-2.
Troutwine led off the seventh with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Vickers. After O'Brien walked, pinch hitter
Hunter Gibson doubled off the top of the wall in right-center to drive in Troutwine for a 6-2 lead.
An RBI fielder's choice from Troutwine and a RBI single from Vickers pushed the lead to 8-2 in the eighth.
The Shockers are next in action on Tue., April 10 when they play at Oklahoma State at 6 p.m.
