WICHITA, Kan. –
Jake Horsch won the K.T. Woodman decathlon with a score of 7,009, Wednesday afternoon at Cessna Stadium.
The redshirt freshman set personal best in the discus (36.49m/119-9) and an overall decathlon score (7,009) to win the multi-event competition. Horsch finished in the top five of all five events of day two, including three top three finishes.
Colin Reichenberger took second place with a personal best decathlon score of 6,422. The junior started day two winning the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.78, he also finished first in the pole vault equaling his personal best clearing 4.45m/14-7.25.
Three Shockers set personal scores in the decathlon, including winner Horsch (7,009), Reichenberger in second (6,422) and
Grant Downes in fourth (6,132). True freshman
Miles Griffith finished his first decathlon scoring 5,928 points for eighth and
Lucas Shaffer followed in ninth with 5,834 points.
Kendra Henry led the Shocker women finishing fourth overall in the heptathlon with a personal best 4,561 points. Henry started the day finishing eighth in the long jump with a mark of 4.90m/16-1. The redshirt freshman finished third in the javelin (35.96m/118-0) and fifth in the 800m (2:28.64). Her overall score of 4,561 ranks No. 3 in The American Athletic Conference.
Carlea Miles finished ninth in the long jump (4.88m/16-0.25), won the javelin (44.47m/145-11) and did not finish the 800m to place ninth overall with 3,977 points.
The K.T. Woodman continues Thursday, April 12 with the High School portion. The multi-event competition begins at 12 p.m., at Friends University, while the field events start at 5 p.m., at Cessna Stadium and the running events begin at 6:30 p.m.
Admission is $5 adults, $4 ages 3-12, under three are free.
