Veith Finishes Second at NCAA Championships

COLLEGE STATION, Texas
Hunter Veith set a personal best in the heptathlon with 6,090 points to finish second at the 2018 NCAA Indoor Championships.
 
The senior All-American entered day two of the heptathlon in second place with 3,432 points, 169 points behind first place. He scored 2,658 points on day two finishing second overall with a total of 6,090 points, 98 points behind first-place finisher Tim Duckworth of Kentucky.
 
"It was a wonderful effort for Hunter to finish runner-up at the NCAA Indoor Championships," said head Track and Field Director Steve Rainbolt. "I am super excited for him and it's a wonderful accomplishment for our program."
 
Veith started the day with a second place finish in the 60m hurdles with a time of 7.99, scoring 984 points bringing his total to 4,416 after five events.
 
In the pole vault, Veith entered the event at 4.56m/14-11.5 and he would clear the bar on his first attempt. He would continue to clear the next two heights on first attempts before missing at 4.86m/15-11.25, finishing fourth at a height of 4.76m/15-7.25.
 
In his final event of the heptathlon, Veith ran a personal best in the 1000m finishing eighth with a time of 2:43.33.

"He finished strong at the end of the meet," said Rainbolt. "He ran a personal best to hold on for a second place overall finish."
 
Veith earned his fourth All-American honor, becoming the first male Shocker to do so.
