WICHITA, Kan. - - Wichita State men's tennis head coach
Danny Bryan announced Friday the signing of four student-athletes to National Letters of Intent.
Zach Grueber, Rafael Serra, Bruno Serra and Alex Richards will join the Shockers for the 2019-20 season.
"We are very excited about this class. All four players are very good kids, hard-workers and have had impressive tennis results so far in their careers," said Bryan.
Zach Grueber | 6-1 | Columbia, Mo.
Zach Grueber comes to Wichita State from Rock Bridge High School in Columbia, Mo. The senior ranks No. 3 in the state of Missouri and is a three-star recruit. Grueber was given the 2018 Best of Prep Tribby award for Best Male Tennis Player of the Year while playing No. 1 singles and doubles. As a junior, he compiled an 18-3 singles record and was 21-3 in doubles. He won the individual Missouri Class 2 doubles title and helped lead the team to their third consecutive Class 2 Missouri team state title in 2018.

In the classroom, Grueber is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta club (Math), Key Club and is in his second year on the Bruin Cup Student Board. He is the son of Sarah and Ryan Grueber and has one sister, Maddie. His father played tennis at Forest Park Community College in St. Louis, Mo.
Bryan on Zach: "Zach is a great kid. He is a very hard-worker and very committed to his game. He has done very well in the classroom, and we look forward to continue to develop his game."
Rafael Serra | 6-2 | Overland Park, Kan.
Rafael Serra comes to Wichita State from Overland Park, Kan. and Blue Valley West High School. Serra is a three-star recruit who ranks No. 3 in the state of Kansas. As a junior, Serra played in the No. 1 slot in doubles and No. 2 in singles. He went undefeated his sophomore season with his brother Bruno to claim the doubles state title, and was 17-2 in singles his junior year. Team claimed two EKL Championships, two regional championships and two state titles in 2017 and 2018. Has one Super MTVA tile in singles and finished fifth at USTA doubles national in 2017. He is the son of Adriana and Glaucio Serra.
Bruno Serra | 6-2 | Overland Park, Kan.
Ranked No. 2 in the state of Kansas, Serra joins twin brother Rafael in WSU's 2019-20 class. Serra is a four-star recruit who played in the No. 1 slots in both singles and doubles for Coach Traci Rhodes at Blue Valley West. Lettered in both sophomore and junior years. Held a No. 3 ranking for 16-year-old boys in Brazil. He was a Cary USTA National Champion in 2017 and finished fifth at USTA Doubles Nationals in 2017.

Bryan on Bruno and Rafael: "They have been very successful in doubles together. Bruno and Rafael are big guys with big games and come from a very good junior program. We are looking forward to helping them take their games to the next level."
Alex Richards | 5-9 | Tulsa, Okla.
Alex Richards comes to Wichita State from Tulsa, Okla. where he trains at the Tucker Tennis Academy under Matias Marin. Richards is currently enrolled at the Mizzou K-12 Online in Columbia, Mo. Richards has won a Level 3 National in doubles, finished third in the Missouri Valley Sweet 16 in singles and in doubles advanced to both the MC Super and Missouri Valley Sweet 16. He ranks No. 2 in the state of Oklahoma and is a four-star recruit.
While at WSU, Richards plans to major in Engineering Technology- Mechatronics. He is the son of Blanca and Mark Richards.
Bryan on Alex: "Alex was the first of these four who committed. He was someone who we've been following for awhile and has steadily been improving his results. He's a very solid player who also has a great work ethic. He comes from a strong junior academy in Tulsa. We are looking forward to getting him on campus. "
