IOWA CITY, Iowa – Sandra Honigova record two straight-set victories on her way to the quarterfinals Sunday at the ITA Central Regional.
 
Honigova, who ranks No. 94, started the day against former Houston Cougar Lauren Alter in the round of 32. The senior from Czech Republic rolled to a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Alter of Arkansas.
 
Honigova battled Iowa's Samantha Mannix for a spot in the quarterfinals. The three-time high school state champion went toe-to-toe with Honigova in the first, before Honigova prevailed in a tiebreaker (7-6(2). Trailing early in the second (2-3), Honigova rallied to record her third victory at the Central Regional, 7-6 (2), 6-4.
 
Sofia Blanco of Oklahoma State will take on Honigova in the quarterfinals not before 10:30 a.m. tomorrow.
