Shockers Improve to 4-0 With Sweep of IUPUI

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Wichita State opened the Hampton Inn Invitational with a 3-0 win over host IUPUI. The Shockers won by scores of 25-15, 25-15 and 25-19.
 
Abbie Lehman led the Shockers with 14 kills, while hitting .619. Mikaela Raudsepp and Tabitha Brown each added 10 kills. Emily Hiebert had 35 assists and Giorgia Civita had 10 digs.
 
"After the first set, we put Abbie (Lehman) back on the right and she went back to dominating," head coach Chris Lamb said. "I was proud of Mikaela (Raudsepp). She hadn't been feeling well and she gave us a great effort. We were hitting .188 in the first game so to finish at .350 is pretty great."
 
SET 1:
• WSU ends the set on a 14-3 run to take a 25-15 win
• The Shockers jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead, but IUPUI answered with four-straight to go in front 4-3
• The set went back and forth until the Shockers scored four-straight for an 18-13 lead
• Another 4-0 Shocker run led to a Jaguars timeout and a 22-14 WSU lead
• WSU scored three of the last four points for the 25-15 win

SET 2:
• The Shockers scored the final four points for a 25-15 win
Abbie Lehman collected her 1,000th career kill in the second set
• The set went back and forth until a 3-0 run put the Shockers up 13-9
• Three-straight kills from Mikaela Raudsepp increased the lead to 17-10
• Two kills from Tabitha Brown, one from Raudsepp and one from Hiebert ended the set for WSU
 
SET 3:
• WSU sweeps the match with a 25-19 win
• The Jags jumped in front 7-4, but two-straight kills from Emma Wright put WSU up 9-8
• A Hiebert service ace increased the lead to 14-10, but IUPUI closed it to 16-15 with three-straight kills
• Kills from Raudsepp and Lehman and a Lehman/Wright block put the Shockers up 19-15
• Kills from Wright and Brown gave WSU the 25-19 win
 
NEXT MATCH:
• The Shockers next play Marquette at 9 a.m. CT on Sept. 2 in the IUPUI Hampton Inn Invitational
