Final Oracle/ITA Division I Rankings: Team | Singles | Doubles | Central Region

WICHITA, Kan. – A pair of marquee postseason wins helped individuals from the Wichita State women's tennis team to a solid showing in the final Oracle/ITA Division I Singles and Doubles Rankings.

Junior Giulia Guidetti becomes just the sixth individual in program history to finish with a national singles ranking, ending at No. 123 (of 125).

Fellow junior Gabriela Porubin is the first Shocker to claim final national doubles rankings in multiple seasons. A year after partnering with Julia Schiller for a No. 75 finish, Porubin and Fatima Bizhokova climbed to No. 55 in 2017. The latter is tied for the third-highest postseason doubles ranking ever for a WSU tandem.

In both cases, wins over nationally-ranked competition during WSU's NCAA Tournament dual with No. 19 Arkansas played an important role. Porubin and Bizhukova defeated Arkansas' 28th-ranked duo at No. 1 doubles – a win that ultimately netted them 29 spots on the final ITA doubles list. Later in the match, an unranked Guidetti took down Shannon Hudson (ITA No. 49) in straight sets.

"I'm happy that Giulia in singles and Fatya and Gaby in doubles were able to finish the year with national rankings," WSU head coach Colin Foster said. "Their wins against Arkansas at NCAAs were very impressive wins at the top positions against a top-20 opponent. Combined with their resumes throughout the year against a difficult schedule at the top singles and doubles positions, those individuals were certainly deserving of that ranking.

"As a team we were in and out of the top 50 this year and finished just outside, but we again showed we are one of the stronger teams in the region and we're looking to build off the many positives from this season."

The ITA also released its final Central Region rankings on Wednesday afternoon.

Guidetti (No. 12) and Bizhukova (No. 18) were among the 20 players listed in the singles rankings, and Bizhukova/Porubin (No. 8) cracked the doubles top-10.

WSU ranked sixth out of the 31 ITA Central Region schools, marking the ninth-consecutive year that the Shockers have finished in the top-10. Oklahoma State, Arkansas, Kansas, Tulsa and Oklahoma took up the top-five spots ahead of the Shockers. Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa and SIU-Edwardsville claimed spots 7-10.
