Box Score MANHATTAN, Kan. – The women's tennis team defeated in-state opponent Kansas State 4-1 today at the Mike Goss Tennis Stadium.
 
The Shockers (10-7, 3-0 MVC) captured a hard-fought doubles point, beginning with Carolina Costamagna/Ines Mesquita defeating Tanaporn Thongsing/Ting-Ya Hsu 6-2 in the second flight. Gabriela Porubin/Fatima Bizhukova responded in the top flight, winning 6-3 over Millie Stretton/Ana Garcia Navas. Porubin and Bizhukova are now a team-best 12-6 overall in doubles play. In the third flight, Marta Bellucco/Giulia Guidetti gutted out a 7-6 (4) victory over Iva Bago/Livia Cirnu to earn the doubles point for Wichita State.
 
"In doubles, I thought that the third doubles team of Marta and Giulia turned a corner," said head coach Colin Foster. "They were aggressive with the match on the line and were able to clinch the doubles point for us."

Guidetti, currently ranked No. 120 in the Oracle/ITA singles ranks, started singles play with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Costamagna in the top flight. Guidetti now has 20 singles wins overall on the season, second to Thongsing. Bizhukova won her sixth-straight match, defeating Garcia Navas 6-1, 6-1 in the fourth flight. The freshman is now 10-1 when playing in the fourth slot this year. Maria Panaite scored the lone point for K-State, picking up a 6-4, 6-3 win over Ting-Ya Hsu in the fifth flight. Porubin closed out the match in the third flight, winning a three-set battle with Mesquita 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 to pick up her 10th dual victory on the year.

"Giulia continues to put together another outstanding year, and Fatima has proven to be one of the better freshmen in the country," said Foster. "...I was pleased Gaby showed confidence to get the clinch when the other two courts were still early in the third set, and the balance of the match was still very much up in the air."

Kansas State drops to 11-9 on the season.
