Inoue Gets Trademark Win, but WSU Falls, 6-1

AUSTIN, Texas – Haru Inoue picked up the biggest win of his career, but it wasn't enough as Wichita State fell to Texas by a score of 6-1 today at the Weller Tennis Center.

The Longhorns (12-2) took the doubles point with a pair of 6-2 wins, as Leonard Telles/Colin Markes beat Miroslav Herzan/Murkel Dellien in the second flight, and Christian Sigsgaard/Julian Zlobinsky defeated Jocelyn Devilliers/Marius Frosa in the third flight. Haru Inoue and Eddie Stoica were deadlocked at 4-4 with Harrison Scott and Yuya Ito in the top flight before going unfinished.

In the top flight of singles play, Inoue defeated No. 11 Christian Sigsgaard 6-2, 7-5 for the lone Shockers point. Sigsgaard was previously 21-8 in singles play this year. Inoue's previous best win was a 6-4, 6-1 victory over No. 19 Giammarco Micolani from Arkansas in last year's NCAA Tournament. Inoue now improves to 16-8 on the season, which leads the team.

Elsewhere in singles play, Herzan and Frosa pushed their matches to three sets. Herzan went back-and-forth with No. 48 Scott, losing 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 in the second flight. Rodrigo Banzer would ultimately defeat Frosa 3-6, 7-6(3), 1-0 (10-6) in the fifth flight. Devillers fell to No. 31 Ito in the third flight, while Stoica lost to No. 86 Leonardo Telles in the fourth flight. Zlobinsky topped Dellien in the sixth flight 6-2, 6-3 to close out the scoring for Texas.

"Tough loss to a very strong Texas team," said head coach Danny Bryan. "We had some chances but we weren't good enough today. Obviously it was a huge win for Haru. It's great to see him get over the hump against a top player."
