MARSHALL ON...

... South Dakota State

"[That was a] great team that we played. I think if they make it to the NCAA tournament, the way they shoot it, they have a chance to win games. We were able to make adjustments at halftime and we were able to squeak out a win against a very hot team."

... Morris' night:
"Morris was really good in the second half, not very good in the first half. [We] finally woke him up, and he dominated in the paint the second half.

.... the rebounding battle and Shamet's impact:
"I thought [Rashard] Kelly, Rauno [Nurger] and [Zach] Brown played with tremendous energy on the glass in the second half and gave us a lot of second-chance opportunities. I thought Landry was tremendous as a floor general and very aggressive off the bounce."

... ball screens:
"It was a bad scheme on our part. We confused them and had too many concepts. In the second half we decided to switch all ball screens one through four, regardless of who they matchups were. If they set a ball screen, we just switched it to try to get them out of their rhythm with their catch and shoots."

... WSU's second half run:
"I think the resolve of these guys, the toughness, refus- to-lose attitude and all of those things really carried us tonight. The adjustment at halftime played a little bit of a part on the defensive end. We held them to 35 points which is more normal for us. 50 points in a half is just not the norm."

... his impression of Landry:
"The way he took command and was very aggressive off the bounce. He made some shots in the second half and played a lot of minutes."

... the trend of opposing stars scoring big against the Shockers this year:
"It's a team game, not an individual game. I don't care who scores the points as long as we have more points than they do. That's whats important."

MORRIS ON...

... stepping up in the second half:

"After having a bad first half, we rallied at halftime. My teammates were telling me how they needed me to step up, and they believed in me."

... playing tough games and overcoming adversity:
"It prepares you for that type of stuff and being in those type of situations. Coach loves to throw adversity into our practice, so when we get into situations like tonight we know how to stay poised and execute down the stretch."

... his motivation in the second half:
"It was really just my teammates talking to me and letting me know they wanted me to dominate the second half. Landry did a great job of throwing the ball in. Zach Brown and all the guards did a great job of playing inside-out."

... the crowd:
"It was kind of hard the first half to get them into it, because we couldn't get stops. It just seemed like they were hitting everything. That doesn't happen too much around here. We talked about that at halftime trying to get our crowd back into it to give us the extra boosts we need."

... losing the rebounding battle in first half:
"That is just unacceptable for us, when we see we are losing a rebound or turning the ball over too much. We just talk to ourself and tell ourselves to get back to us, and attack the glass.

... hailing from Oklahoma, and playing the Cowboys and Sooners:
"It's back home, but soon as you step on the court, no matter who it is, it's 40 minutes."

SHAMET ON...

... the amount of three's shot:

"I think we had 44 points in the paint, so we weren't living and dying by the three. A good look is a good look and, as a shooter, that's just your mindset."

... having fresh legs:
"Part of that is just being in good condition and obviously being deep like we are. Having guys come off the floor, sub in sub out, offense and defense that helps out a lot."

... positively impacting on offense:
"Stay within myself and not [trying to] do too much. I had a few too many turnovers for my liking. Do what coach asks me to do, score when an opportunity presents itself and get guys looks."

...Other star players getting a lot of points:
"You know, to an extent, guys like that are going to get theirs. As a competitor, you take that personal guard and if that's your matchup then obviously you don't want them giving you 30. You take it personal, but at the end of the day Mike Daum is a pro. He's an NBA guy and very skilled."

SDSU HEAD COACH T.J. OTZELBERGER ON...

... the Shockers' competitive spirit:
"I'm really proud of our guys here. They really battled, and it's a challenging place to play. I look at coach Marshall and believe this is one of the best programs in the country. He's one of the elite coaches in the country, and I have a tremendous amount of respect for him...there are certainly no moral victories, we like to play really good teams like the Shockers because we want to get better as we move forward. Hats off to them, they really kept their composure and I thought they did a really great job  with their pressure late in the game that caused us some fits. We expect nothing less from a Marshall-coached team."

... facing a pressing team with depth:
"I think that depth is real. They can really throw a lot of bodies at you with length and athleticism. It's not only the press, but you feel that on the glass, as well, because they are in the top-20 in rebounds offensively and defensively. So we are trying to play combinations that give us the best chance against the press with three guards. But then the rebounding battle becomes tougher. They are fortunate with their depth, and when they get McDuffie back, they have another weapon. They are a great program, and they have built this roster really well. I think they can play with--and beat anyone in the country.
