LAHAINA, Hawaii – Shaquille Morris and Landry Shamet combined for 48 points, and No. 6/6 Wichita State stormed back from an 18-point second half deficit to defeat California in Monday's Maui Jim Maui Invitational quarterfinal matchup.
 
The Shockers (3-0) advance to Tuesday's the Maui Invitational semifinal against Marquette. The game tips at 12:30 p.m. CT (8:30 a.m. HT) on ESPN.
 
WSU trailed 58-40 with 16:30 to play but willed its way back into the game with its press defense. The Shockers converted 12 second-half Cal turnovers into 22 points.
 
Samajae Haynes-Jones' floater tied the game at 76 with 5:17 to play. Three-straight buckets from Morris keyed a 10-0 run, and the Shockers took the lead for good at the 3:11-mark.
 
Morris scored a career-high 25 points on 10-of-16 shooting to go with seven rebounds and four blocks. In the process, Morris (106 career blocks) passed a couple of Shocker greats in Xavier McDaniel (103) and Gene Wiley (105) for fourth-place on the school's all-time blocks chart.
 
Shamet matched his own career scoring best with 23 points on 8-of-10 shooting. He drilled all four of his three-point attempts – all in the first half – officially breaking Ron Baker's school record for consecutive games with a triple (now 28-and-counting).
 
Rauno Nurger (5-of-6) scored nine of his 11 points in the second half to lead the reserves and also gathered six rebounds. The senior has reached double-figures in all three games to start the year, after doing just eight other times in his first three seasons with program.

Rashard Kelly snagged a game-high 10 rebounds to go with six points.

WSU forced 11 steals, led by Zach Brown (4) and Conner Frankamp (3).

Naismith Hall of Famer Ralph Miller coached 353 games for the Shockers from 1951-64. Monday's game was Marshall's 354th -- most in program history. Marshall (264-90 in his 11 seasons at WSU) surpassed Miller as the school's all-time wins leader in February, 2015.
 
Don Coleman scored 26 of his game-high 35 points in the first half for Cal (2-2), which led 47-38 at the half but shot just 33 percent in the second half.

Justice Sueing (7-of-12, 4-of-6 from three) scored 20 points, and Darius McNeil added 16.
 
WSU's 24 offensive rebounds were its highest total in 11 seasons under Marshall. The previous best came in a January, 2013 home win over Creighton.
 
The Shockers won the overall battle of the boards 48-37 and outscored Cal in the paint 46-26.

*The Shockers have won openers at six of their last seven MTE's.
*WSU improved to 3-0 for the fifth time in six years.
*The Shockers evened the all-time series with Cal at 1-1 and avenged the 1975-76 team's 75-68 loss to the Bears at the New Mexico Lobo Invitational in Albuquerque.
*WSU has won 15-straight regular season games dating back to mid-January.
