Biography


Career Summary:
Wichita East graduate was a JUCO All-American and national champion at Hutchinson Community College before coming home to play for the Shockers. He showed flashes of potential in his first year, setting a school bench-scoring record with 31 points early in the year, but – as a senior – began to fully harness it. Lightning-quick lefty guard averaged 11.9 points and nearly 33 minutes-per-game in 2018-19 and helped lead the Shockers to three postseasons wins and a trip to the NIT semifinals in New York. Delivered two buzzer-beaters in conference play to beat SMU and UConn at home.

 2018-19 (Senior):
  • Ranked second on the team at 12.0 points-per-game and hit 64 three-pointers.
  • 24 double-figure scoring games; three 20-point games; two double-doubles.
  • One of just three scholarship players who returned from the 2017-18 team’s active roster.
  • Started all 37 games.
  • Played at least 30 minutes in 31 of the 37 games, averaging 32.3 minutes for the year.
  • Played 1,195 total minutes – second-most in school history behind his Shocker teammate Markis McDuffie, who logged 1,235. Both players broke the 38-year school record held by Randy Smithson.
  • 459 field goal attempts tied for 10th on WSU’s season list; 215 three-point tries ranked second (also behind McDuffie).
Notable Performances:
  • Averaged 10.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 30.3 minutes over four games during WSU’s run to the NIT semifinals in New York.
  • Registered his first and only dunk as a Shocker in the season finale against Lipscomb at Madison Square Garden (Apr. 2) on his way to 11 points, eight rebounds.
  • 13 points; 8-for-8 at the foul line in NIT quarterfinal win at Indiana (Mar. 26).
  • Second double-double of the year (10 pts, 10 reb) in NIT second round at Clemson (Mar. 24). Hit a step-back three with 30 seconds to go to push the lead from three to six.
  • Scored 17 points in 38 minutes in a near-upset of nationally-ranked Cincinnati in the AAC Semifinals (Mar. 16).
  • Beat the buzzer (and Uconn) on Feb. 28 with a runner from the right baseline with no time on the clock. It that landed at No. 1 on SportsCenter's Top-10 plays. He also finished with 20 points and made the AAC Honor Roll.
  • Beat SMU on Jan. 30 with a twisting, reverse-layup with 1.0 second remaining.
  • Scored 22 points on 10-of-18 shooting in an overtime loss to Temple (Jan. 6). He played all but one of the 45 minutes.
  • 12 three-point attempts in the Jan. 3 conference opener at Memphis tied for the third-most on WSU’s single-game chart.
  • Put together nine-straight double-digit scoring games from Dec. 12 through Jan. 19.
  • Landed on the conference weekly honor roll for Nov. 26-Dec. 2 after a double-double performance in the Dec. 1 win over Baylor (21 points, 10 rebounds). He hit a career-high six threes on 11 attempts.
  • Averaged 14.0 points in three Charleston Classic games.
  • Scored 15 points in 36 minutes to key a neutral court win over Providence at the Veterans Classic (Nov. 9). With WSU down 15-5 he hit three-consecutive threes to give the team life. He finished with a career-high eight assists.
2017-18 (Junior): Showed flashes of brilliance during an up-and-down junior season, averaging 5.3 points, 1.3 assists and 11.0 minutes over 24 games... Scored 31 points (believed to be the most ever by a Shocker reserve) in a Nov. 28 win over Savannah State on 11-of-17 shooting, helping WSU set a school record for bench points (68)... Battled a stomach illness in December but returned to form with 27 points in the Dec. 19 victory against Arkansas State... Averaged 8.9 points during conference play but scored just 30 points in 13 conference games... Did not see action after Feb. 21.
 
Junior College:
Second team All-American who led Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College to an NJCAA National Championship in 2017… Averaged 16.1 points while shooting 42 percent from three… First team all-conference and all-region… Led the NJCAA in total minutes played (1,195) and ranked ninth nationally in free throw percentage (.894)… Totaled 58 steals in 36 games… Team was 67-8 over his two seasons with back-to-back national title game appearances… Finished his career ranked ninth on the school’s all-time scoring list (1,163 points), third in three-pointers (124) and second in free throw percentage (.861)… Averaged 15.4 points as a freshman in 2015-16 and was voted second team all-conference… Scored a career-high 33 points in the NJCAA Quarterfinal win over defending national champion Northwest Florida State.
 
High School:
An all-state performer at Wichita East… Named one of Kansas' five best players by the Wichita Eagle after leading the Aces to the 2015 Class 6A State Championship during his senior season… The last three wins in the state title run came on his future home floor, WSU's Charles Koch Arena… Averaged 15.6 points for the year and was voted Class 6A All-State by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association (KBCA)… Also landed first team all-city and all-metro honors… As a junior picked up a second team all-city nod and was a 6A honorable mention all-state pick by the KBCA, while helping East to a third-place finish at state… Team went 46-4 over his final two seasons, including 24-1 in his last go-around… Coached by Joe Jackson… Core of teammates included two other Division I signees (Zach Jackson at Nebraska-Omaha and Xavier Kelly, a dual-sport athlete and top-100 football recruit who now plays defensive end for Clemson).
 
Personal:
Majoring in general studies sociology… Favorite book is Nate Robinson’s “Heart Over Height”… Favorite athlete is Allen Iverson… Recruited by Louisville, Houston, Cincinnati, East Tennessee State and Robert Morris, among others.
