WICHITA, Kan.  --  Wichita State's abbreviated men's cross country team was fourth, and the women's team did not score with just four runners, at 27th annual Woody Greeno/Dirksen Invitational at Pioneers Park, hosted by the University of Nebraska and Nebraska Wesleyan.

Shocker newcomers, Josh Klein, on the men's side, and Katie Cumpston, on the women's side, were the highest finishers for Wichita State. Klein was 12th in the Red Division with an 8K time of 26.45.3, while Cumpston finished 37th overall in the women's 6K race.

Head Cross Country Coach Kirk Hunter took a mix of veterans and newcomers to the race on the men's side, and all underclassmen on the women's side.

Also scoring for Wichita State on the men's side in the Red Division were newcomer Cory Landon, (16th/26:56.0), Reno Law (20th/27:10.4), Stan Skwarlo, III (23rd/27:18.3), and Gage Garcia (25th/27:32.9). Kyle Larkin was 29th in a time of 27:49.4.

Finishing for the women behind Cumpston were Suzie Wright (44th/23:56.9), McKenna Paintin (79th/25:11.3) and Kendra Schoening (92nd/25:34.3).

The Shockers took two top 10 Midwest Regional rankings into the meet with the women at No. 8 and the men 10th in this week's poll. WSU will take a full squad to the Chile Pepper Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., on Oct. 1.
