TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – No. 3 seed Bradley used 7.1 strong innings from Matt Dennis to defeat No. 6 seed Wichita State 5-2 in the first round of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.
The Shockers had just three hits in the game, a home run from
Alec Bohm and singles from
Greyson Jenista and
Luke Ritter.
Starter
Zach Lewis went five innings and gave up four runs on seven hits with one walk and six strikeouts.
The Shockers wasted no time getting on the board in the top of the first. With two outs,
Greyson Jenista singled to left field and scored on a home run to left field from
Alec Bohm for an early 2-0 lead.
The Braves came back in the bottom of the third. DJ Gasso led off with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. He scored on a bloop single to centerfield from Luke Mangieri to cut the lead to 2-1. With two outs, Tyler Leffler homered to left field to give the Braves a 3-2 lead.
BU added to the lead in the fifth. Gasso led off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. With two outs, Spencer Gaa doubled down the left field line to drive in Gasso for a 4-2 lead.
Gasso's RBI double in the eighth extended the lead to 5-2.
The Shockers will next face the loser of the Indiana State-Missouri State game in an elimination game at 11:30 a.m. (CT) on Thurs., May 26.
