Men's Tennis Claims MVC Regular Season Title

WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State men's tennis clinched the Missouri Valley Conference regular season title with a pair of Drake losses Saturday afternoon, marking the program's third MVC regular season championship in school history.

"This was a real team effort," said head coach Brad Louderback. "I'm real proud of this group. They've faced a lot of adversity with me being out for a couple months and not being able to make a single road trip, losing five 4-3 matches all to ranked teams and then to play without our No. 1 player, Tin (Ostojic), in all of our conference matches. So, to fight through all of those things and come out regular season champions I couldn't be more proud of this group."

By winning the regular season crown, the Shockers will be the No. 1 seed in next week's MVC Tournament hosted by Wichita State April 29 through May 1 at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex and Crestview Country Club.

WSU previously won the MVC regular season title in 1997 and 1998. The program will look to collect its MVC-leading 25th Team Tournament Championship next week.

The Shockers will receive a first round bye in the MVC Tournament and await to play the winner of the No. 3 seed and No. 2 seed from the AEC on Saturday, April 30 at 10 a.m. at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex.
