Shockers Fall to Oral Roberts, 6-4

TULSA, Okla. – Oral Roberts scored six runs in the first four innings and held on to defeat Wichita State 6-4.

Luke Ritter, Ryan Tinkham and Travis Young each had a hit for the Shockers.

WSU starter Tyler Gibson went 1.1 innings and allowed two earned runs on five hits with one walk and one strikeout.

The Golden Eagles jumped on the board in the bottom of the first. Nick Roark singled with one out and Matt Whatley reached after a Shocker error. With two outs, Michael Hungate singled to right field to drive in Roark for a 1-0 lead.

The Shockers tied the score in the top of the second. Gunnar Troutwine led off with a walk and moved to second on a ground ball from Zach Reding. Tanner Kirk followed with a walk and with two outs pinch hitter Luke Ritter collected his first career hit with a single to left field to drive in Troutwine and tie the score at one.

ORU answered back with two runs in the bottom of the second. Trevin Sonnier led off with a single and stole second. With one out, Nick Rotola doubled in the right field corner to give ORU a 2-1 lead. Roark followed with an RBI single to increase the lead to 3-1.

The Golden Eagles used two singles, a walk and a wild pitch to add on another run in the third for a 4-1 lead.

A two-run home run from Rolando Martinez in the bottom of the fourth increased the lead to 6-1.

WSU cut into the lead in the top of the fifth. The Shockers scored two runs on four walks, two wild pitches and a passed ball to cut the lead to 6-3.

A bases loaded walk for Tinkham in the top of the ninth made the score 6-4.

The Shockers are next in action on Fri., Feb. 26 at New Mexico at 7 p.m. Central time.
