CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Wichita state sophomore
Rebekah Topham won the women's 5k Missouri Valley Cross Country Championship with a time of 17:24.8 Saturday morning to help the women's team to a third-place finish at the Pheasant Ridge Golf Course. The Shocker men finished second as a team led by
Ugis Jocis' 10th-place time of 25:12.2 in the 8k race.
Topham is the first Shocker to win the MVC title since Aliphine Tuliamuk won back-to-back titles in 2011 and 2012.
The women finished with a score of 82 with Topham,
Emilea Finley and
Sidney Hirsch earning All-Valley honors. Finley was fourth with a time of 17:38.8 while Hirsch earned her third all-Valley honor with an eighth-place finish in 17:55.4.
Jordan Maestas finished 30th in 18:38.4, Savannah Fox (Wright) was 41st in 19:04.8 and
Sarah Wright was 42nd in 19:06.6.
Suzie Wright finished 55th in 19:37.4.
On the men's side, Jocis was all-Valley while
Pedro Montoya and
Joe Harter were honorable mention all-Valley with 12th (25:16.2) and 14th (25:21.7) finishes, respectively.
Nathan Wickoren was 19th in 25:39.6,
Kyle Larkin was 28th in 26:13.5 and
Reno Law was 29th in 26:15.1.
Gage Garcia finished 34th with a time of 26:31.9 and
Josh Klein was 48th in 27:05.5.
Bradley's men won the team title with a score of 24, while UNI (52) and Bradley (64) finished ahead of the Shocker women.
