MALIBU, Calf. and MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - After the first day of the Oracle ITA Masters and the ITA Central Regional, two Shockers have advanced past their opening round matches.

In the ITA Central Regional, Tanaporn Thongsing beat Annemarie Emme (Minnesota) 2-6, 7-6(3), 6-2 to advance to the round of 128. Thongsing, a 17 seed, will play unseeded Jeannie Lozowski (Nebraska) on Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. Giulia Guidetti lost to Natusha Arakawa (Arkansas) in the opening round. Arakawa won 6-3, 7-6(8) to eliminate Guidetti.

In the Oracle ITA Masters, Gabriela Porubin defeated Sidney Liggins (Xavier) 6-4, 6(5)-7, 6-2 to advance to the round of 16. Porubin, the number 15 seed in the tournament, will face second-seeded Ena Shibahara (UCLA) tomorrow.
