WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita State softball team allowed just one hit in their 10-inning game against Hutchinson Community College, winning by a score of 18-0.
Freshman Bailey Klitzke got the start in the circle for the Shockers, throwing five innings, and allowing the only hit by the Blue Dragons. Senior
Katie Malone threw the last five innings, throwing five perfect innings.
Mackenzie Wright led the Shockers with four hits, collecting one RBI and scoring three runs. Asea Webber also added, with two hits and four RBI.
Macklin Hitz got things going in the first with a single to centerfield, to take a 1-0 lead.
In the second inning,
Mauriana Jamele brought home Morgan Palmer with a single to right. After an error by the Blue Dragons and a single from
Cassidy Kelsheimer, the Shockers took a 4-0 lead.
A Webber double in the bottom of the third, pushed the Shockers lead to 5-0.
After a scoreless fourth inning, the Shockers scored six runs on five hits from Wright,
Bethany Canada,
McKenzie Adams, Jamele and
Madison Perrigan, to take a 11-0 lead.
In the seventh, WSU added another run on a sacrifice-fly from Webber.
Palmer doubled in the seventh inning, to bring in two Shockers. A single by
Laurie Derrico brought in Palmer to make the score 15-0.
Three more runs in the bottom of the ninth on a single from Wright and a double from Webber, ended the scoring for Wichita State, and gave them the 18-0 victory.
The Shockers are now 6-0 this fall and will not be in action again until Tuesday, Oct. 25, as they host Northern Oklahoma Enid, at 5 p.m., in their final game of the fall.
