NORMAN, Okla. - No. 3 Oklahoma scored eight runs over the final two innings to defeat Wichita State in 6 innings, 12-3, Tuesday night at Love's Field.
Wichita State (19-14) dropped its third straight game and fell to 0-4 this season against ranked teams.
Freshman
Kammie Smith went 2-for-3 with a double, home run and two RBIs.
Ausha Moore hit her American Conference leading 11th home run of the season to drive in the only other run on the night.
Johnna Schroeder reached base twice on a pair of singles.
Wichita State lost starting pitcher
Jade Sanders just six batters into the game after taking a sharp liner off her leg.
Gabby Fakes tossed 5.0 innings in relief, allowing five runs on eight hits. Fakes was stellar out of the bullpen tossing three scoreless innings, but the nation's best offensive team broke through in the fifth and sixth innings.
Ava Sliger faced the final three batters, allowing three hits, including the game-ending three-run home run.
Oklahoma jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first, but the high-powered offense was held scoreless over the next three innings until a pair of solo home runs in the bottom of the fifth. Oklahoma added six more in the sixth on a three-run home run from the nation's home run leader, Kendall Wells and a walk-off three-run home run to end the game by Isabela Emerling.
The Shockers scored all three of their runs in the top of the third on Moore's solo home run and Smith's two-run blast down the left field line.
