WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita State women's tennis team begins the 2016 spring season at No. 39 in the ITA Division I rankings – up two spots from where it left off last May.

The ITA also updated its individual singles and doubles rankings, Tuesday, for the first time since September. Sophomore
Gabriela Porubin – tied for the 125
th and final spot in the fall rankings – moved up 54 notches to No. 71 after compiling an 11-5 mark in tournament play.

Porubin (37-11 career record) is now the Missouri Valley Conference's highest-rated player.

The Shockers return seven of their top-eight singles players from last year's 24-4 squad that swept the Missouri Valley Conference regular season and postseason tournament titles for the seventh-consecutive year and advanced to its seventh-straight NCAA Tournament.

Head coach,
Colin Foster (111-49 career record), begins his seventh season at the helm. His teams have finished with national rankings (top-75) in three of the last four years.

WSU opens its spring schedule Friday, Jan. 15 with neutral site match against Saint Louis (8 a.m. CT) in Springfield, Mo. and its first MVC dual versus host Missouri State (1 p.m.).

The Shockers' first home action is an 11 a.m. dual with North Texas on Sunday, Feb. 7 at the Wichita Country Club.
