NORMAN, Okla. – Gabriela Porubin claimed a runner-up finish in the first singles flight and teamed with Julia Schiller to reach the finals in the top doubles draw, as Wichita State wrapped up tournament action at the OU Fall Invite.
 
Porubin (ITA No. 125) couldn't duplicate her Friday and Saturday success, falling to Texas Tech's Gabriela Talaba (ITA No. 103) in Sunday's championship match.  After dropping the first set, 6-2, Porubin (3-1 to start the year) nearly battled back to win the second, but Talaba survived a grueling 10-8 tiebreaker to clinch the title.
 
In doubles, Schiller and Porubin conquered North Texas' team of Maria Kononova and Tamuna Kutubidze, 7-5, to reach the OU Fall Invite's championship round for the second-straight year. However, TCU's team of Caroline Wegner and Seda Arantekin denied them in the final match, 6-3.
 
Nonetheless, it was a strong start to the fall season for Porubin, who went a combined 6-2 in singles and doubles, including 3-1 against nationally-ranked competition.
 
In the second flight, Giulia Guidetti and Luca Pump came up short in the semifinals, losing to North Texas' Alexis Thoma and Kamilla Galieva, 6-2.
 
Guidetti – who also made a third-flight singles semifinal appearance on Saturday– went a combined 4-2 on the weekend.
 
Abby Stevens rallied to win her final singles match of the weekend to claim a seventh-place finish in the second flight. She and partner Tanaporn Thongsing split a pair of consolation matches to finish sixth in the second doubles flight.

Next Up:
WSU will divide and conquer. A handful of Shockers will compete at the prestigious ITA All-American Championships (Oct. 3-11 in Pacific Palisades, Calif.). The rest will head to the MVC Individual Championships (Oct. 2-4 in Springfield, Ill.).
