HONOLULU – Wichita State won the first set, but dropped the next three to No. 18 Hawaii. The Rainbow Wahine won by scores of 24-26, 25-20, 25-20 and 25-19.
Sophomore middle blocker
Abbie Lehman had a career-high 17 kills and hit .516 with eight blocks.
Emily Hiebert had a team-high 42 assists, while
Dani Mostrom had 23 digs.
The first set went back and forth until Hawaii used a 3-0 run to go in front 10-7. The Shockers responded with a 4-0 run to take an 11-10 lead and a kill by
Shimen Fayad increased the lead to 15-12. The Rainbow Wahine answered with a 4-0 run to grab a 16-15 lead, but kills from
Mikaela Raudsepp and Fayad gave WSU an 18-17 lead. The two teams traded points down the stretch, but a 3-0 run brought the Shocks to set point at 24-23. UH tied it at 24 with a kill, but a kill from Fayad and a service ace from
Jody Larson gave WSU the 26-24 win.
A 4-0 Shocker run gave WSU an early 11-7 lead in the second set. Hawaii cut the lead to one with a 3-0 run and used a 4-0 run to take a 17-15 lead. The Shockers used a block from
Abbie Lehman and Larson to pull within 19-18, but UH reeled off three-straight kills to go in front 22-18. The Rainbow Wahine closed out the set with the final two points for a 25-20 win.
UH grabbed an early 10-7 lead in the third set, but the Shockers fought back to tied it at 16. Kills from Lehman and Raudsepp gave the Shocks an 18-17 lead, but UH answered with a 3-1 run to re-take the lead at 20-19. A block by Lehman tied the score at 20, but the Rainbow Wahine won the next five points for a 25-20 win.
The Rainbow Wahine used several WSU miscues to go in front 8-3 in the fourth set. A UH block increased the lead to 14-7 and the Rainbow Wahine went on to win the set 25-19.
The Shockers are next in action on Sun., Aug. 30 against Idaho at 7:30 p.m. (Central).
