HONOLULU – Wichita State hit .327 on the way to a 3-0 win over Idaho. The Shockers won by scores of 25-16, 25-22 and 25-18.
Sophomore
Abbie Lehman led the Shockers with 10 kills and six blocks, while hitting .562.
Emily Hiebert had a double-double with 30 assists and 13 digs.
The Vandals raced out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first set, but the Shockers came back to tie it at five on a block by
Emily Hiebert. The Shockers took their first lead of the set 8-7 on a kill by
MaryAshton Floyd and WSU increased it to 11-7 on a service ace from
Katie Reilly. Two kills from
Jody Larson put the Shocks up 16-10 and WSU closed out the set 25-16 on a kill by Floyd.
UI again grabbed an early lead at 7-4 in the second set, but the Shocks tied it at seven on a block by
Katy Dudzinski and
Shimen Fayad. A kill by Hiebert gave WSU a 12-10 advantage and a Fayad service ace increased it to 15-11. The Vandals tied it at 19 with a kill, but the Shocks used a 3-0 run to take a 23-20 lead. A Fayad kill and a block by Larson and Lehman gave the Shocks a 25-22 win.
A kill by Larson put WSU up 5-2 in the third set, but the Vandals came back to tie it at eight after a kill. A 4-1 Shocker run made the score 12-9 and WSU increased the lead to 19-15 after a kill from Lehman. WSU won the set 25-18 on a kill from Floyd.
The Shockers are next in action on Fri., Sept. 4 against Abilene Christian at 11 a.m. in College Station, Texas.
