COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Wichita State earned its third win of the season with a 3-0 win over Abilene Christian at the Texas A&M Invitational. The Shockers won by scores of 25-17, 25-12 and 25-21.
Jody Larson led the Shockers with 10 kills, while
Emily Hiebert had 32 assists and
Dani Mostrom had 14 digs.
MaryAshton Floyd added a career-high five service aces.
The Shockers raced out to a 4-0 lead after kills from
Katie Reilly,
Abbie Lehman and
Jody Larson. A kill from
Katy Dudzinski increased the lead to 9-1, but the Wildcats used two-straight kills to pull within 15-11. WSU reeled off a 4-0 run to go in front 19-11 and a service ace from
MaryAshton Floyd gave WSU a 21-12 lead. The Shockers won the set 25-17 on a kill from Lehman.
A Larson kill gave WSU a 7-2 advantage in the second set and back-to-back service aces from Floyd increased the lead to 12-5. Two-straight aces from
Shimen Fayad made the score 20-10 and a kill from
Jaclyn Roddy gave WSU the 25-12 win.
The third set went back and forth until the Shockers took a 13-9 lead on a kill from Dudzinski. A Hiebert kill increased it to 16-11, but the Wildcats pulled to within 18-15 with a block. Another ace from Floyd gave WSU a 22-17 lead and two-straight kills from Fayad closed out the set 25-21.
The Shockers are next in action on Fri., Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. against New Mexico State.
