Men Top In-State Rivals at Rock Chalk Classic

LAWRENCE, Kan. --
  Wichita State's men finished first and the women were second at the Rock Chalk Classic track and field meet Saturday behind seven individual titles. In addition, WSU set women's records in the 100-meter hurdles and the 4x100-meter relay Saturday at Rock Chalk Park. See results in attachments box.

Taylor Larch-Miller broke Nikki Larch-Miller's 100-meter hurdles school and Missouri Valley Conference record with a time of 13.19 while also coming in first on Saturday. Nikki set the previous record earlier this season with a time of 13.29. Taylor's time is 18th in the country in national results heading into the day.

The Shockers' women's 4x100 meter relay finished second, but set a new school record with a time of 45.37 breaking the old record of 45.43 set in 2014 by Natalie Morerod, Shamoya Pruitt and Nikki and Taylor Larch-Miller. Both Larch-Miller's helped set this record, too, along with Shanice Andrews and Deja Young.

Wichita State's Chris Burnett got the Rock Chalk Classic started off for Wichita State with a title in the 5,000-meters. Burnett's time of 14:22.51 won the race, while on the women's side Sidney Hirsch finished second in the 5,000-meters in a time of 17:00.94.

Also, early in the meet, WSU's Dylan Reimer won the men's javelin with a throw of 68.96 meters, while Chase Pote was sixth (59.65m) and Aaron True was seventh (59.37m).

In the women's hammer, Emily Cook was fifth with a throw of 49.73m and Sadie Suenram was seventh with a throw of 46.22m. Cook also finished fourth in the shot with a throw of 12.93m.

Jonathan Duvall finished third in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.13, while Jacob James was sixth with a time of 14.53.

Ryan Hocker finished second in the 800-meters with a time of 1:51.72, while Sarah Wright was the Shockers' highest finisher on the women's side in the distance with a time of 2:13.82.

In the 100-meters, Nikki Larch-Miller finished second with a time of 11.43, but the time was wind-aided. Deja Young finished fifth with a time of 11.93.

In the 1,500-meters, Tiffany Christensen was fourth in a time of 4:40.17, while Savannah Wright was seventh in 4:44.77 and Emilea Finley was eighth in 4:44.93.

In the men's 1,500-meters, the Shockers went 1-2 with Ugis Jocis winning the race in 3:50.00 and Robbie Martinez-Garcia second in 3:51.85.

Taylor Larch-Miller and Nora Zajovics finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 400-meter hurdles in times of 59.99 and 1:01.36, while Taylor Thomas finished sixth (1:04.34).

Skylar Arneson threw the shot 16.19m  for WSU and Kord Ferguson, competing unattached won the event with a throw of 16.96m.

In the women's pole vault, Andrea Navarro finished third in the javelin with a throw of 42.51m, while Kelsey Tenbrink finished sixth with a throw of 38.32m.

Weston Cottrell, Skylar Arneson and Taylor Goldsmith finished first, second and fourth in the hammer with throws of 62.42m, 62.04m and 57.97m, respectively, to score 23 points for the men.

Nikki Larch-Miller finished second in the women's long jump with a jump of 6.17m. Breanne Borman finished sixth with a jump of 5.74m.

In the men's long jump, Tate Annis jumped 7.10m to finish third as the Shockers' lone-long jumper.

 Deja Young finished third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.47.

Toward the end of the meet, Kyle Larkin won the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:30.34, while Kayla Deighan finished third in the event on the women's side in a time of 11:07.68.

In the women's high jump, Haley Griffin finished eighth with a height of 1.66m.

In the triple jump, Shazz Michael Lindo won with a jump of 15.41m.

In the day's final events, WSU finished fourth in the men's 4x400-meters in a time of 3:20.69, while the women finished third in a time of 3:46.70.

Shanice Andrews finished second in the women's triple jump with a jump of 12.77m, while Annette Hodges was fifth with a jump of 11.83m and Megan Holmes was seventh (11.59m). 

In the women's discus, Sadie Suenram was sixth with a throw of 46.72m.
